Web Companion can protect your computer from Internet threats, such as phishing and hijacking. In this regard, the tool can detect and filter malicious sites in real time. The installer is quite light but you should be careful not to press the Next button without paying much attention, because, otherwise, it may change your browser home page and default search engine. The tool has a nice and easy-to-use interface. It supports various languages and there are two themes to choose from. The application runs from the System Tray and its icon there allows you toggle protection on and off with just a button click.
The tool supports the most popular browsers, like Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer, and its protection also covers the operating system and other applications. Moreover, when you’re surfing, it can block ill-intentioned contents before they are actually downloaded to your computer. In practice, it seems to work fine, as it detected some sites reported by NOD32.
In general, Web Companion is an effective alternative to unpleasant browser toolbars. However, you should be aware that it can’t provide complete antivirus protection, so it should be used along with other AV programs; and, fortunately, it doesn’t interfere with any of them.
